GETTING THERE
The address of the apartment is Medinet Nasser (the name of the neighborhood), Building 30 flat number 2 (ground floor, the apartment with the yellow security bars) and it's telephone number is 097-2334260. the best way to get there is to take a taxi, with good bargaining from the center of the town: 5 L.E. Show the name of the street (preferably in Arab characters) to the Taxidriver. Tere are from the Corniche service taxi’s and buses along the main road. Ask to stop for Medinet Nasser, near the football stadion. From there on, walk up the hill to the mosque and turn left. Every buiildig is marked with it’s number in arab letters. When in doubt PLEASE go to the Egyptian Tourist Office (tel. 097-2312811) which is situated next to the railway station where Mr. Shoukri Saad and his assistant Hakeem Hussein know all about me and can give you directions. If you want to rent a bike you can do so but you will have a bit of a climb to get to my apartment.
From Cairo there are regular flights to Aswan, at least one daily, by Egyptair; very expensive for foreigners. A taxi will cost you about40 LE. There is also the train to get from Cairo (Ramses Station) or Luxor to Aswan. There are several air-conditioned trains per day both ways of which there is one day train and one night train available to non-Egyptians. The cost in 1st class is 95 LE one way. It takes 13 hours from Cairo to Aswan. Martinair, Arkefly , Transavia en Air Berlin runb charterflights from Amsterdam or Dusseldorf to Luxor. From there it is easy to get to Aswan by train.
Of course Aswan has a lot of hotels. My preference is a place the Keylani Hotel, tel. 097-2317-332, E-mail:
mohamed @ aswanet.com, in the middle of the soukh, 10 minutes walk from the railway station. The rooms are spotless clean, have a toilet and shower, there is airco or fan and it's internet cafe is the basis of Aswanet, the local provider. Price (in 2007) 22 us$ per night including breakfast on the roof.
